In a thrilling finale, Denmark's Jacob Piil and Tayab Braikia came from one lap down to grab the lead from Italians Adriano Baffi and Giovanni Lombardi, and held on to win the event by over 60 points. The lead had changed hands several times during the race.
This race was held at the Palais des Sports de Grenoble (that's the old Olympic stadium for the 1968 winter games). My thanks to Roger Hughes, who has kindly forwarded some interim results that landed on his fax machine, and to the organisers of the Grenoble Six, who kindly faxed me the final results.
Other gossip: Angus Fraser, soigneur to the stars, tells me that Gilbert Duclos-Lasalle's son was riding in the amateur race in Grenoble.
On a less happy note, the French police visited the Grenoble Six when the Drugs Squad raided the riders' quarters on the last night.
